K9 Koa Gets Essential Gear: Bullet and Stab Protective Vest on the Way

K9 Koa, a valued member of the Greene County Sheriff’s Office, will soon be equipped with a bullet- and stab-proof vest. This essential piece of equipment was made possible through a generous donation from Vested Interest in K9s, Inc., a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting law enforcement dogs across the United States.

Details of the Donation

The donated vest, valued at $1,800.00, is custom-fitted to K9 Koa and will be embroidered with the message, “This gift of protection is provided by Vested Interest in K9s.” The U.S.-made, NIJ-certified vest weighs between 4 and 5 pounds and comes with a five-year warranty. Delivery of the vest is expected within the next ten weeks.

About Vested Interest in K9s, Inc.

Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. was established in 2009 by Sandy Marcal. The 501(c)(3) charity’s mission is to provide bullet and stab protective vests and other assistance to dogs working in law enforcement and related agencies throughout the United States. Since its inception, Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. has donated over 5,794 vests, valued at $6.9 million, to K9s in all 50 states.

Eligibility and How to Help

The program is open to U.S. dogs that are at least 20 months old, actively employed, and certified with law enforcement or related agencies. K9s with expired vests are also eligible to participate. Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. accepts tax-deductible contributions of any amount. A donation of $985 sponsors one vest.
