Sheriff C.J. Ball reported that the operation was the culmination of an investigation into the sale and delivery of methamphetamine in the area.

Suspect Arrested, Items Seized

During the execution of a search warrant, deputies arrested Ricky Wood, a 29-year-old resident of Newport. The search yielded a substantial amount of illicit substances, including approximately 7 grams of methamphetamine, 3 grams of cocaine, 9 Oxycodone pills, 8 hydrocodone pills, 7 Adderall pills, and 3 suspected fentanyl pills. Additionally, law enforcement officers seized $6,455.00 in cash, a Glock 19 9mm handgun, a Smith & Wesson .38 revolver, and 26 pounds of marijuana that was packaged in vacuum-sealed bags.

Charges and Bond

Wood faces multiple charges, including the sale and delivery of several scheduled drugs. The seized drugs are classified as Schedule I and II controlled substances, indicating a high potential for abuse. Methamphetamine, cocaine, Oxycodone, fentanyl, hydrocodone, and Adderall are all Schedule II drugs. Marijuana is classified as a Schedule I drug. Wood is also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a weapon during the commission of a felony. His bond has been set at $200,000.00.

Ongoing Investigation

The Cocke County Sheriff’s Office emphasized that the investigation is ongoing. Sheriff C.J. Ball stated, “All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty.”
